What makes a good prompt? AI tools (aka Large Language Models or LLMs) like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini are designed to understand your input (prompt), anticipate what you want, and generate the desired output. A good prompt is clear, concise and specific. A great prompt follows the GREATCITE model below.

Goal

Define the purpose of the prompt. What are you looking to write or create?

Role

Give the AI a persona. Simply define who or what perespective the AI should adopt.

Example

Provide a reference, sample text, or photo to guide the style or format.

Audience

Clarify the target audience. Include demographic and psychographic descriptors.

Tone

Define the style or mood (e.g., friendly, bold, professional).

Context

Give background information. Describe the scene or scenario (e.g., business meeting, training session, special event).

Instructions

Explicitly state how the AI should structure the output (e.g., bullets, columns, tables).

Timeframe

Specify the timeframe the response should reflect (e.g., week, quarter, year, season)

End Format

Explicitly state your desired format for the final output (e.g., PDF, doc., spreadsheet, PNG, JPEG).
